Why use Medtrav instead of booking this yourself or using a traditional travel agency?

First of all, we have done this ourselves and have been where you are now. This trip is unlike any you have ever planned as it is medically centered. You simply cannot plan this like any other vacation as your menstrual cycle changes on a monthly basis. Even a few days could change things like your airline return ticket or a prepaid shark tour. The last thing you want to do is strain both yourself and your fertility doctor into a fixed schedule. For this reason, we have a set of full or 1/2 day trips etc do accomplish at your liesure. Also we recommend you call or email us when you are there to get you on the right  safari as your doctor will not know exactly the days you have off until they see you and have begun the process. 

Speaking of Safari's...did you know that you have to be careful which one you choose as the Center for Disease Control or CDC warns you could miscarry if you take malarial pills? We know which safari lodges are malaria free and can send you there. We are also sure you would like to visit the 5 star lodges the stars like Pitt/Jolie, Travolta, and Cage prefer. We have ths inside scoop and have been there ourselves. Your doctor will also most likely recommend you wait 2 days after embryo transfer to go on any safari or get on an airplane.  

Another example of how we can help is in monetary savings. Do you know which one is cheaper between staying there for two weeks and starting meds in the US or going to Capetown for three weeks instead? We have the answer and would love to share it with you.

Now, lets talk about the not-fun stuff. By now your heart is racing with excitement and hope of getting the vacation of a lifetime AND a baby at the same time but..... you're also terrified of it not working or of the trip being so far. This up-and-down process is so normal and taking the leap of faith is hard. People don't realize how emotional infertility is and sometimes I felt like my own husband did not understand.  When I went thru it, there was no one who truly knew how I felt. Family and friends try hard but you still feel alone. We understand and are here to take your calls or emails and help get you through it. People like us  feel hope, fear, and doubt  to the extreme and we want to help you thru it.  My husband will take the time to chat with the men and I can work with the women. Its a real team effort and will bring you more together in the end.

Our Story

My husband Jeff and I have been in the travel business for over 15 years each. Together we have worked for Northwest Airlines, KLM, Continental Airlines, American Airlines, and now Travel Leaders travel agency (formerly Carlson Wagonlit) a huge consortium of travel agencies worldwide that coordinate both corporate and liesure travel. Last year I had an etopic pregnancy that almost took my life. The result was one tube had to be removed and the other was severely blocked.  My ob informed me that IVF would be the best way to go and at 38 years old,  I wasted no time looking for the best care. I like many others, found that one round would cost $12,000-18,000 per round in the US so I started looking overseas. South Africa was on my "bucket list" and the quality of private care there is one of the best in the world. I figured if the first heart transplant happened there, it would be good enough for me so I kept checking it out. Even as a travel professional, it took me 4 months to put this trip together in between tears of fear and hope. Finally, we just took the leap of faith and went. Long story short, its January 2009 and i'm 9 weeks pregnant  (Remind me later to tell you about my full story as it is interesting.)

While we were in Capetown, we set out to make professional acquaintences to make it easier for people like us to make the same trip. It is our goal to make this process as easy as possible so that you can focus on the good stuff...yourself!
